Huawei console settings: baud rate for S-series, CloudEngine, AR and USG
Huawei keeps one console speed across the whole enterprise line: 9600 8-N-1, no flow control — S-series switches, CloudEngine, AR routers and USG firewalls all behave the same. That consistency is useful in the field: one terminal profile covers everything.

Field notes
S series (VRP)
9600-8-N-1 default. Factory console has no password until you create the admin account during first console login; console line must use the cable shipped with the device (RJ45 to DB9/DB25).
CloudEngine(VRP)
9600-8-N-1 default. First login creates the admin password; keep the console cable at hand for initial bring-up and password recovery.
AR series (VRP)
9600-8-N-1 default on AR routers (VRP). Use the console port on the router panel for first-time configuration.
USG / HiSecEngine
9600-8-N-1 default. Console is used for first login and OS recovery of USG firewalls.
Why it looks dead when it is not
Nothing on screen
Huawei ships a console cable in the box. Third-party RJ45 leads wired for Cisco rollover usually work, but confirm your adapter is not a null-modem type before blaming the switch.
Output stops during boot
Some platforms go quiet between the boot loader and VRP. Press Enter once at a few-second interval before you decide the device has hung.
Boot interruption for password reset
The interruption key differs by platform and VRP version. Check the model release notes before power-cycling anything in production — guessing here is how maintenance windows turn into incidents.

Questions people actually ask
- What is the default baud rate on a Huawei switch?
- 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control — the same for S-series, CloudEngine, AR routers and USG firewalls.
- Do Huawei and Cisco use the same console cable?
- Both use an RJ45 rollover pinout, so a Cisco-style rollover lead generally works. The risk is adapters: a DB9 null-modem adapter in the chain will break the link.
